Tag #7104 (Phoenix)
Sweet Phoenix spent his final days being loved and cared for by our family before passing peacefully over the rainbow bridge.
This horse worked for a living for the Amish. Unfortunately, he ended up in a kill lot in awful condition. We spent weeks soaking feed for him and nursing him back to health.
Several vet visits confirmed our fears. Phoenix had several missing teeth and would never be able to enjoy life the way a horse should. He would quid all of his food and couldn’t chew or swallow hay, grass, or any type of forage. There was a huge risk of choke and also metabolic complications.
Given the situation, we decided to give Phoenix the last act of kindness and laid him to rest. He passed away being loved and cared for…. with dignity.
The photo on the left is how he came to us and the photo on the right is the amazing progress that he had made while with us. It wasn’t the outcome we had hoped for but we know he is at peace now.
